A-Z Guide To Covid Testing in Riyadh

Like many other countries, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been hard-hit by the pandemic. Along with immigrants, more than 2.5 million international pilgrims were denied entry because of COVID-19.

In October 2020, there were 24 new COVID-19-related deaths. This took the Coronavirus death toll to 4,996. It implies that 338,539 plus citizens had contracted COVID-19. Of the active 9,261 cases, 859 patients were in serious or critical condition.

The government is insisting that anyone experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 should visit a clinic. Individuals who have no to mild symptoms but could have been in contact with an infected person should attend a Taakad (make sure) testing centre by booking an appointment through the ministry’s Sehaty app.

How is testing done?
Testing is done at the allocated government hospitals and clinics. There are two kinds of tests for COVID-19.

Viral test
This test tells you if you have a current infection. A mucus swab is done for the same. The results are available in 2-3 days.

If you test positive, your health practitioner will guide you further. Usually, people with mild COVID-19 illness recover at home without medical care.

Antibody test
A blood test is done to measure antibodies and see if someone has been exposed to the virus, technically known as SARS-CoV-2.

It might tell you if you had a past infection. A positive test implies that you may have antibodies from an infection with the virus that causes COVID-19. It may also indicate that you were affected by a different virus from the same coronavirus family. The results are available in 2-3 days.
