Tips for oil change options for Hyundai and Toyota Cars

Hyundai and Toyota are the two most popular brands, and one of the key components for their excellent maintenance is the oil change. There’s no doubt that oil is the lifeblood of a vehicle. Changing oil regularly is an integral part of the routine maintenance needed to keep your vehicle going.

Think of it as a human being’s circulatory system that keeps us going with blood regularly pumped from our hearts. In the same way, the oil keeps the moving parts of the car lubricated. It also minimizes the heat generated by friction. With this step, all of the internal components keep going without overheating.

Why is oil change needed?
With the passage of time — and increasing use of the car, engine oil breaks down with use and wears out. Hence, it tends to get less effective with time, especially when it comes to its function of lubricating and reducing friction. You must change the oil before periodically. Else you will end up paying a major repair bill.

Engine oil and engine oil filter
One cannot neglect to change the engine oil and engine oil filter when it comes to car maintenance. They need to be changed at the appropriate time, ranging from 5,000km to 10,000km This depends on the owner’s manual.

#Tip: This information is provided on top of the engine oil cap.

In most GCC/region-specific specs cars for arid climates like Riyadh, the duration is every 5,000km. Keep in mind this is one of the simplest and cheapest service-related jobs, which can be done at many petrol stations. Any kind of burnt or lousy oil in the engine or reduced oil in the engine is a sure-shot way of destroying your vehicle’s engine.

What if you don’t change the engine oil?
In case the engine oil and filters are not changed on time, it keeps collecting contaminants that can damage your engine. Not removing/replacing them for long periods of time means that additives in the oil can break down, which will increase the amount of friction on the engine’s moving metal parts. In the long run, it means engine overheating and increases its wear and tear rate, and major engine problem can happen.

#Tip: You should regularly check the oil level and replace the oil filter with every change.
How to read oil levels?
The easiest way to get an accurate reading of your oil level would be when the engine is cold (not started since an hour), remove the dipstick, wipe it with a clean cloth or paper towel, and reinsert it.

What’s the magic number?\
There is no rule of thumb here, but most motorists change the oil either at 5,000. Now, remember that you can go as far as 10000 kilometres without changing the oil if you are using synthetic oil. But if using other oil forms, 5000 kilometres is recommended. This is further suggested for people who generally drive at high speeds or have an older engine. With the newer models, a longer interval between oil changes like 7000 kilometres is advised.

Charges for an oil change will vary from 180 SAR for a Toyota or Hyundai sedan at the 5000-kilometre interval, including labour costs and the replacement of the oil filter. At most Hyundai and Toyota-certified centres, the technicians will replace:

•           Engine Filter

•           Engine Oil
